Court Dismisses Atiku, Obi’s Request For Live Coverage Of Election Tribunal

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal currently underway in Abuja has ruled out the request filed by presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar and that of Labour Party, Peter Obi for live coverage of the Tribunal proceedings.

Obi and Atiku’s lawyers have both filed the request last week for the proceeding to he transmitted live to the whole world.

According to them, this will make the process transparent, fair and acceptable to all interested parties and Nigerians in general.

However, the request was questioned and rejected by counsel to the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu led by Chief Wole Olanipekun.

According to him, broadcasting the live coverage of the Tribunal will put the lives of lawyers at risk and also put a question mark on the sanctity of the hallow chamber.

The ruling was however adjourned to today.

On Monday morning, the Chairman of the Election Petition Court, Justice Haruna Tsammani dismissed the application saying it lacks merit.
