Japa Syndrome: UK Govt Bans Nigerian Students From Bringing Their Families While Studying

For smart Nigerians who are cashing in on the Study Visa to execute their escape plans from the country to the United Kingdom, it appears the end has come for that game plan following the recent policy introduced by UK government.

According to an update from UK Home Secretary, Suella Braverman the government has announced a ban on family visas for students coming to study in the country.

In other words, anyone applying for study visa from the UK should now rule out the possibility of traveling with his family as a way of migrating to the UK.

The decision is applicable to all international students seeking for study visa in the UK.

In the report, which was published on Sky News, international students would no longer be able to bring dependants with them unless they are on postgraduate courses that are currently designated as research programmes, beginning from January 2024.

According to Braverman, recent immigration figures had shown an “unexpected rise” in the number of dependants coming to the UK alongside international students.

She added that the increase was made after the government made its commitment to lower net migration.

However, the recent policy is made to curb explosion of immigration into the country through Study Visa.
