Police Send Seun Kuti Back To Prison After Chief Magistrate Failed To Show Up In Court 

The trial of Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has taken a more complicated dimension on Tuesday after he was forcefully returned to prison in Panti, Yaba, Lagos.

Seun was scheduled to appear in court for the continuation of his trail over an assault on a police officer at Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on May 13.

The police prosecutor was said to have brought him to court on Tuesday for continuation of his trial but found out that the chief magistrate, Adeola Olatubosun was not around. He was returned to Prison, Panti Yaba, Lagos where he is being detained.

The case has however been adjourned till Wednesday, May 24.

Seun Kuti voluntarily submitted himself at the command headquarters on May 15 after he was filmed assaulting a police officer.

The musician was detained at the state criminal investigation Department (SCID) and arraigned before the magistrate’s court on May 16.

The police had sought to get an order to further keep him in custody for 21 days pending the conclusion of its investigation.

But the court directed the police to detain him for an additional 48 hours to conclude with the investigation and then release him on bail.
