“In Honour Of Pius Akinyelure”- How Ondo Fed. Lawmaker, Akingbaso Scored His First Legislative Goal On First Day At Nat’l Assembly
Considering what transpired during the election of the leadership of the National Assembly conducted on Tuesday which consequently ushered-in the 10th Assembly, the people of Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency may now come to terms that their decision to send Festus Olanrewaju Akingbaso to the Federal House of Representatives was not a mistake.
Like other elected members, Akingbaso, a newly elected member voted Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, a ranking lawmaker who represents Zaria Federal Constituency, Kaduna State as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Giving his voice vote during the election, Fessy West as fondly called said: “In honour of our leader, Chief Pius Akinyelure, I vote for Alhaji Tajudeen Abbas.”
Akingbaso’s vote might not carry more weight than that of other lamwakers but his decision to place premium on good representation in the face of political power play within and outside the hallow chamber amply gave a definition of his personality.
Honouring Chief Akinyelure with a vote for Abbas is a clear evidence that Akingbaso has chosen to put politics aside and now ready for the real business of good representation. It also points to the belief that politics is over, and what remains is how to form the necessary alliance that will usher-in the dividends of democracy the people of Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency have been craving for.
Many Nigerians who watched the live proceeding on Tuesday would however wonder why the Lawmaker chose to revolve his decision around Akinyelure who is neither a known politician nor political office holder.
Chief Pius Oluwole Akinyelure, a Chattered Accountant, multi-talented socialite, businessman and politician is one man who has been silently using the instrumentality of politics to positively affect the people of his Community and Ondo State at large.
He has worked and lived in the full consciousness of his avowed commitment to give back to the society that made him. Smart and highly sagacious, Akinyelure’s brand of politics is a mystery for younger generation to unravel.
Clearly not the only politician in Idanre but unarguably, he is a frontline political leader with visible and palpable presence in his community. As a close ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Akinyelure has what it takes to attract a special package for the people of Idanre under the current administration. And Akingbaso’s representation at the legislative Assembly is all that requires to make this happen.
Akingbaso’s decision to honour him with his vote for Tajudeen Abbas as speaker of the newly constituted 10th Assembly is a paradigm shift from the usual politics that places importance on political party ahead of people.
This is no doubt, a smart move by Fessy West which tends to birth a huge benefits to the people of his Constituency.
Akingbaso has just scored his first legislative goal by demonstrating an unfettered loyalty to his people on his first day at the Federal House of Representatives.
