LASEMA Rescues Motherless Children As Fire Razes Home

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has rescued not less than seven motherless children from a Home that was engulfed by a domestic fire, on Sunday.

A statement by the agency says it received a distress call about the outbreak of fire in a one-storey building, being used as an orphanage/motherless babies Home, at number 7, Wole Madariola Street, off Enitan Kusimo Street, Aguda, Lagos.

The agency claimed it received the call through its toll free numbers at some minutes to three o’clock in the afternoon and responded promptly.

According to the statement by LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the seven male children aged between one and seven, have all been rescued by the response team.

“Post Disaster Assessment revealed that the whole of the first floor was salvaged, while the fire was contained in the store room and the rest of the ground floor was also salvaged.

“The children were formally handed over to the Deputy Director, Mr Balogun and Mrs Rasheedat Sadik, both of the Child Protection Unit of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, who then formally handed the seven children over to the RED CROSS”.

The fire reportedly started from an air conditioning unit in the house as a result of power surge.
