For The Third Time, Adeleke Pays Salary Arrears Owed By Aregbesola’s Govt.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the payment of another batch of half-salary arrears owed by the Rauf Aregbesola-led administration.
The measure is part of Adeleke’s efforts to pay state workers’ salary debts and support them in accordance with his 2022 governorship campaign commitment.
His spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, stated this in a statement made accessible to press in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The latest half-salary arrears settlement would be the governor’s third in accordance with the pattern released earlier this year to pay the debts on a quarterly basis.
The administration has made payments for the first and second quarters, and employees will get the third quarter payment along with their July wage.
Last year, Adeleke promised voters that wage arrears would be paid in phases. The previous administration left the administration with N26 billion in half-salary arrears and N50 billion in pension-related problems.
In response to the approval, the governor reiterated his commitment to faithfully implementing the pattern for the payment of inherited salary arrears.
He stated that the blueprint represented a consensus among all stakeholders on how to exit the half-salary trap.
“I want to assure Osun workers that the payment is progressing as scheduled. Despite the tight fiscal situation, we are prioritising workers’ welfare by paying the inherited debt on an instalment basis,” he said.
“As a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, we will remain focused on human development even as we work to upgrade our infrastructure and develop our local economy.” the statement concluded.
