Local Hunters, Woman Land In Police Net For Torturing Teenager With Petrol, Local Gin

Three Local Hunters as well as a woman have been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly torturing a 14 year old boy, Abobo Nasani, accused of stealing the sum of N21,000 belonging to one Mrs. Pemu Ngularo.

The suspects allegedly poured petrol and “ogogoro” on the minor, Abolo while torturing and flogging him for the alleged crime.

Abobo of Tasala community in Demsa Local Government Area was accused of carting away the money which belonged to a woman known as Ngularo Pemu of the same community.

The local hunters, Kanisi India, 35, Paul India, 25 and Dickson Hani ,30,along side the woman are now being investigated for the crime by the police.

Abobo who was allegedly tied on a tree while being tortured and starved for two days, was later dumped by the road side in Demsa by the local security.

The security personnel allegedly kept flogging the minor while pouring petrol and local gin on his body, but the boy denied having stolen the money as a result of which the security agents inflicted wounds on his body.

However, the hunters who confessed to maltreating the boy, said that the boy was brought to their office at Tasala for discreet investigation, and that their preliminary investigation revealed that the boy actually stole the money but refused to disclose where he had kept it.

Having woefully failed to recover the money from the boy, the hunters transferred the case to their Local Government Headquarters in Demsa for further and proper investigation.

The boy was again tortured and starved for two days by the senior officers manning the LG Headquarters for him to confess but to no avail.

Failure to link Abobo with the crime, the officers allegedly took the boy and dumped him by the road side for whoever cares to pick him as revealed by the boy’s father, Marvelous Tunoh.

Earlier, Mrs. Ngularo who had her money carted away, fingered the boy; hence, her decision to report him to hunters for necessary action instead of police as required by law.

All the suspects who confessed to the crime while being interrogated by the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, regretted their action and pleaded for mercy.

SP Nguroje who confirmed the arrest to mewsmen said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola after receiving a complaint on the matter, ordered the immediate arrest of the hunters.

SP Nguroje assured that the command would charge all the suspects to court for prosecution upon completion of investigation.
