Crisis Deepens In Edo As Obaseki Disbands Shaibu’s Media Team
The crisis between Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu has taken another dimension as the state government has ordered the disbandment of the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor.
This directive, according to a statement signed by Chris Nehikhare, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, followed the “ugly and unfortunate incident that happened during the colloquium held to mark the 60th anniversary of Midwest Referendum celebration held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage.
RovingNaija News had earlier reported that the governor’s security aides stopped Shaibu from having access to Obaseki at the hall while some journalists, who claimed to be the media crew of the Deputy Governor, attempted to force their way into the hall but were restricted.
Nehikhare, in the statement said the act was contrary to the accredited protocol that had been established for the media coverage of the event.
“The orchestrated and stage managed walkout and disruption is highly regrettable,” the statement added.
The statement therefore implored “Deputy Governor to henceforth request the Ministry of Information and Orientation for media coverage of activities of his office.”
