Healthcare: Rivers State Uni. Teaching Hospital Gets New ICU

The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital ( RSUTH) has opened a 12 bed space Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for patients with severe and potentially life threatening conditions.

At the official opening, the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Adaeze Oreh, says with this kind of equipped ICU, residents of the state and its environs are now exposed to higher level of advance health care.

“Rivers people should be proud that the governor of the state Siminalaiyi Fubara is keeping to his campaign promises he made by demonstrating the commitment for health care excellence in the state by equipping the ICU at the RSUTH”.

Reacting, the Acting Chief Medical Director, Professor Chizindu Alikor said the ICU has 12 beds with three dedicated to infectious disease patients.

“The ICU of this hospital is well equipped, specialized ICU beds, each bed has a ventilator, has a critical care multi- parameter patient monitor, we have got dedicated Mobile X-ray here, we have Electro-cardiography machine, Echo-cardiography machine, the i-start machine, AAD Defibrillators, all essential drugs necessary for care here and then many other basic facilities and a dedicated laboratory that is fully automated for special care, so that blood investigations for patient here in intensive care unit are also gotten and gotten quickly.”

Professor Alikor while commending Governor Fubara for his commitment in building on the gains of the previous administration particularly his support in opening of the ICU in the RSUTH, Says patients in need of intensive care facilities can now come to RSUTH and obtain good quality intensive care adding that the unit also has CRT for those who will want to be dialyzed even while in the ICU.
