Rivers Prioritizes Healthcare, Introduces Health Insurance Scheme:
The River State government has introduced a health insurance scheme to increase access to healthcare and improve the life expectancy of its citizens.
The Rivers state Commissioner for Health, Doctor Adaeze Oreh says the health benefit package for State health insurance is totally in line with Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s vision to improve the quality of healthcare in the state.
While welcoming guests to the stakeholders engagement for the development of the benefit package for the health insurance programme that is to commence soon says health insurance is a prepayment plan for health needs.
She added that the state Government has provided the needed infrastructure and are currently looking to bridge the human resource challenges they have so they can have a smooth take-off of the insurance program including the basic healthcare provision fund.
On his path, the Rivers state House Committee Chairman on health, Adolphus Orubienimigha said as law makers, they will bring it to the floor of the house and ensure the Contributory Pension Scheme is handled to the best of their ability
Adolphus says it is worrisome that a scheme such as this is just starting in Rivers State, while other States have accessed the he scheme a long time, just as he assures the Residents of full presentation.
Those present at the engagement include the Rivers state House of assembly committee chairman of health, directors of the Rivers State ministry of health, directors of the Rivers State primary health care management board, representatives of the ministry of justice, chairman of the trade union, permanent secretary of the ministry of women affairs, representatives from the ministry of social welfare amongst others.
