Why Ladipo market was shut down

The Lagos state government has made clarification as to why the busy Ladipo autoparts market was shut down Friday by officials of the Ministry of Environment.

The Ministry said the market has become notorious for illegal trading and environmental degradation within Ladipo and its environs.

According to the SA Media, Jubril Gawat, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, had ordered immediate closure of Ladipo market, Mushin, for reasons bordering on environmental degradation, non compliance with Lagos state environmental law and refusal to pay waste bills.


In a swift reaction to the closure, the office of the President General Lacec ladipo ultra modern market, Chukukelu Nwankwo, after meeting with the other members of the executive announced that tomorrow Saturday 30th September, 2023, all the traders in the market have been asked to come out by 7am for environmental cleaning of the market.


RovingNaija gathered that Ladipo Market was not the only market closed, Mushin market was closed too because of environmental issues which includes reckless waste disposal, unhygienic premises, and non payment of waste bills.
