Gov. Diri Confident of Re-election, Calls for Vigilance by INEC, Security Agencies

By Orji Onyekwere

Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State has said that the November 11 guber poll is not a do or die affair but an opportunity for fair assessment of the strength of the candidates by Bayelsans.

Governor Diri who said this, during Nigeria at 63 and Bayelsa at 27 independence service celebration at the King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Yenagoa, stated that his administration had done well to deserve a second term.

The Governor specifically called on INEC and the security agents to act as credible umpires in the process.

The Governor stressed that the process is not of bullets but of ballot papers citing that political parties must behave themselves as civilians, not soldiers.

“If you believe that I have done well, our Government has done well, do not be afraid, go there and cast your vote.
It is not a process for bullets it is a process of ballot papers, if it is bullets, we have no business in politics.

Therefore, may I once again call on those who are contesting this election with me, if they are true Bayelsans, they should not go and kill their brothers and sisters.

So, as we start our campaigns all political parties must behave as civilians. We are not soldiers and let the security be very vigilant for all those non-state actors who want to truncate democracy, particularly building up to November 11 and after the election,” Governor Diri said.
