NPA Evicts Policemen From Barracks
There is palpable uncertainty and anxiety among the police officers resident at the Nigerian Ports Authority Barracks in the Sunrise area, of Apapa, Lagos State.
This follows an order by the management of the Ports Authority to Police officers to vacate their accommodation as the houses have been sold to a new owner.
Information had it that the policemen were initially given three months to vacate the premises but were surprised to be informed that the deadline has been reduced to two weeks which left some of them stranded, frustrated and confused on the next line of action.
They were each given a sum of #200,000 to facilitate their exit and the barracks is said to accommodate about 200 occupants.
RovingNaija.com reliable gathered that the officials of the Nigerian Ports Authority prior to this notice had a meeting with the hierarchy of the police, where it was agreed that each occupant would be given N500,000 to get accommodation elsewhere.
But they later changed their mind informing them that they could not afford such, rather they should be given N200, 000 each. He wondered where anyone could get good accommodation with such amount in this present time .
