The Nigerian Army Will Continue to Guarantee Security of Lives, Property – GOC

The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam on Wednesday restate that the Nigerian Army (NA) will continue to ensure security of lives and property for all Nigerians.

He made the declaration at 146 Battalion, Bonny Island, Rivers State while unveiling the new name of the camp and commissioning of several projects.

Major General Abdussalam, while making his remarks, commended the Commanding Officer(CO), 146 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Habeeb Mbe for keying into the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, which is anchored on sound administration.

In a statement by Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations Major DANJUMA JONAH DANJUMA, said the GOC added that the initiated projects have created an enabling environment for troops to perform their responsibilities optimally in the most efficient manner that the projects will be of immense benefit to the officers that are in the unit and those that will come thereafter.

The GOC reiterated that, the renaming of the Camp to Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya Camp, was based on Army Headquarters approval done in recognition of the invaluable contributions of the immediate past COAS to the Nigerian Army and fatherland, which he said is commendable. He assured the community in Bonny that the Army is a Nigerian Army, working for Nigerians for the security and safety of Nigeria and all Nigerians.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the CO, Lieutenant Colonel Habeeb Mbe, said the projects were executed for the benefit of troops and mankind. He further added that the battalion shall continue to uphold the COAS Command Philosophy, which is “To transform the NA into a well trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities.

He used the opportunity to thank the GOC for the strategic guidance that brought the projects to fruition, adding that he remained externally grateful to the GOC for his unwavering support to the battalion. This he added, translated into the several projects commissioned in the battalion.

The event witnessed the unveiling of the new name of the Camp, commissioning of several projects, including the Commanding Officer’s Official residence, officers transit accommodation block, remodelled officers’ mess and twin helipads within the camp. This he further added, was in addition to projects such as, the perimeter fence, remodelled battalion entrance gate, quarter guard, 1.2 kilometres ring road, car park and a mosque earlier commissioned at the Camp.

The event had in attendance representative of King Edward Dappa Pepple of Bonny Kingdom, Chief (Ambassador), Lieutenant Colonel Dagogo Claude Wilcox, Chairman Bonny Council of Chiefs, heads of security agencies, captains of industries, and the good people of Bonny kingdom.

The statement further added that major highlights were the unveiling of the new name of the camp, commissioning of projects, cultural dance entertainment by Abara and Finima cultural groups, presentation of souvenirs, and group photograph.
