The Zamfara state government has closed the Maru Market indefinitely following frequent bandits’ attacks in the town.
The Commissioner, Ministry of information and culture, Munnir Haidara Kaura who announced the shutting down of the market said the directive was with immediate effect.
The suspected bandits attacked Nasarawa area in Maru town at about 2am on Friday, killing four persons and injuring two others, two days after an attack on the Maru emir’s Palace during which they killed one and abducted an IT officer of the Emir.
The troops of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) who responded to distress calls placed on them engaged the Bandits in a gun duel between 2:30am to 5:00 am.
It was gathered that the Bandits have ransacked some houses in the town and vandalized them before they withdrew due to the fighting power of the armed forces during the firefight that ensued
It could be recalled that, recently bandits intensify attacks on communities in Gusau, Maru and Kaura Namoda local government areas including other vulnerable areas in the state with stiff resistance from the security operatives that thwarted some of the attacks.
