Peter Obi Reveals Reason He Visited Gov. Nyesom Wike Amid Defection Rumour Last Week

Following the visit of former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of Labour Party, Dr. Peter Obi to the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike about a week ago, it was widely rumoured that the Wike was planning to make a political move.

The speculation was coming on the heels of controversies that are trailing the choice of Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the running mate to the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar ahead of governor Wike who was supported by majority of party leaders and PDP governors.

Many believe that Governor Wike may likely want to team up with Peter Obi after Obi paid him a visit in Port Harcourt.

Responding to the speculation while featuring on the Wednesday edition of Arise TV Morning Show, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party said his visit was not an attempt to woo Wike to his campaign team.

According to Obi, there was nothing political about his visit. He said he only went to meet Wike to discuss the Seaport in Port Harcourt and how it can become a money spinning machine for the nation if he eventually becomes the president.

Obi said Wike who is the sitting governor of Rivers State is highly strategic and there is need to discuss the economic prosperity of this nation with someone like him.

He explained that Wike knows what he wants for himself and can identify who has the capacity to fix the problem of the country without being cajoled or lured into any campaign team.

Peter Obi noted that he respects Wike for whom he is, his achievements in the state and PDP and he will also have to respect his decision on whom he choose to support in 2023.

Since Wike lost the ticket of PDP and also missed out in the choice of running mate to Atiku, he has been receiving series of encouragements by politicians from other parties.

A week ago, the Rivers State governor announced his departure from Nigeria to Turkey for vacation alongside Abia State Governor, Ikpeazu.

He returned to the country on Monday.
