11 LASTMA Officers Dismissed For Extortion, Bribery

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed 11 officials for extortion and bribery.

Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq, who confirmed the development, said a disciplinary panel had convened on Thursday, to investigate allegations against 12 LASTMA officers.

He stated that while one of the officials was ultimately cleared of wrongdoing, 11 were found guilty.

“While 11 officers were found guilty of the corruption charges against them, only one officer was exonerated,” Taofiq explained.

He added that the Acting General Manager issued a stern warning to all LASTMA personnel that harsher penalties would be imposed on corrupt officers.

This, he said, aims to cleanse the agency of the “few bad elements tarnishing its image.”

“We hereby call on residents especially motoring public to support the Agency in the on-going restructuring by promptly reporting any errant officers via any of the Agency’s complaints hotlines (08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928515 & 08129928597) with proof of evidence,” he said.
