Bauchi Police Command said it has arrested one Atim Emmanuel 23 years old three Hundred level student of Abubakar Tafawa balewa University Bauchi in possession of a firearm and cartridge.
According to a press release issued by the command public relations officer Ahmed Wakili, the suspect was arrested with a locally made revolver pistol and a cartridge while coming out of the University campus.
“during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have gotten the firearm from one Zadog who leased it to him for two academic semesters at the rate of twelve thousand Naira (N12,000,00).
The suspect, according to the police, confessed to haven also acquired the firearm for his protection and security from criminals when attacked.
The arrest of the suspect is coming at a time the University has been facing a series of attacks resulting in the recent killing of one person and a protest that prompted the University management to shut down the school as investigation is ongoing to unravel those behind the crimes.
The public relations officer said the commissioner of police, Auwal Musa has directed that the suspect be transferred to the state criminal investigation for investigation, to determine and confirm whether he has killed anyone with the gun, after which he will be charged to court.
