Police Recover Guns, Ammunition, And Others During Raid In Edo Communities

Police operatives in Edo State have conducted a raid on the coastline communities in Ovia South-West Local area of the state, with a view to fishing out criminal elements terrorizing the area.

In a statement by the Command’s deputy spokesperson, ASP Jennifer Iwegbu Saturday evening, she stated that the raid was carried out at about 4.20 pm on Friday, 26 August 2022, following the arrest of one Lawrence Yambo and his gang, who have allegedly been terrorizing Okomu community.

She added that the operation, which was in continuation of the ongoing raids of criminal hideouts and cultists’ enclaves in the State, was conducted by operatives attached to the Command’s intelligence and rapid response squad, the Command’s crack team, and its Marine Police.

The statement read in part:

“On arrival at the community, the other miscreants terrorizing the community on sighting the operatives took to their heels into Agbede forest in Ovia West Local Government area of Edo state, abandoning their loots.

“On the Spot house to house search conducted within the community led to the recovery of the following items; 2 AK 49 Riffles, 1 AK 47 Riffle, 2 locally made revolver single barrel, 1 locally made single barrel, 1 locally made double barrel [gun], 1 locally made and cut to size barrel [gun], 128 pieces of AA cartridges, 12 pieces of 9mm ammunitions, 2 telephone handsets, 2 army shirts, 2 high-pressure gas cylinders and a bag of charms.”

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu, has applauded the professionalism of the operatives in leading the onslaught.

Yaro reassured the public that the Command would not rest on its oars to ensure that the State is peaceful and crime is reduced to the barest minimum in the State.

He also appealed for continuous collaboration from the good people of the State including security stakeholders.
