An unidentified Okada rider and his passenger have been crushed by a reckless Danfo driver at Bolade intersection in Oshodi Lagos.

According to LASTMA officials at the scene of the incident which happened on Sunday, the passenger died immediately while the rider trapped under the bus was rescued and rushed to the hospital.

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, confirmed the incident, saying normalcy has been restored.

Preliminary investigations revealed a notorious commercial Volkswagen bus driver who was on top speed after beating a traffic light drove recklessly and rammed into a moving commercial motorcycle with passengers at the Bolade intersection inward Oshodi.

LASTMA Durojaiye Musefiu ‘Bravo’ (Zone 20 P. W. D.), who was on a traffic monitoring patrol with his team around the Oshodi axis, narrated that the accident could have been averted if the notorious commercial Volkswagen bus driver had obeyed the traffic light regulating vehicular movements at Bolade Intersection.

He confirmed further that while the passenger (male) on the commercial motorcycle died instantly, the trapped rider was rescued under the commercial bus with serious injuries.

Durojaiye stated that while the corpse of the dead passenger and the rescued rider were moved away by LASAMBUS personnel, the driver of the commercial bus was handed over to policemen from Akinpelu Police Division.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who visited the accident scene, warned commercial bus drivers to desist from overspeeding and always obey traffic as installed across the state.

He, however, appealed to motorcycle operators to stop plying bridges and highways, including all restricted routes across the state.
