We Are Under Siege Of Robbery Attacks – FUTA Students Cry Out

Students of the Federal University of technology, Akure are currently under siege of robbery attack and are crying to the state and Federal Government to come to their safety.

In the last one month, students living off campus of the institution have been persistently attacked, maimed and lost their valuable belongings such as phones, laptops and others to robbery attack.

The Students claimed that all complaints to the State Police command and FUTA authority have yielded no result, stressing that “they appear insensitive.”

RovingNaija Reporters gathered that there are over fifteen thousand (15, 000) students in FUTA and the school can only accommodate five thousand (5, 000) with priority on the new intakes and final year students.

This leaves about ten thousand students (75% of the student population) to look for accommodation outside the school premises especially at the FUTA North gate without security arrangements by the school authority, the communities and the police.

This has seriously exposed the students to grave danger, as attacks by armed robbers are now the order of the day.

Attacks had happened at many lodges including Awero and Apata ayeraye.

On Thursday night, the armed robbers visited Awero hostel, destroyed doors to various rooms and went away with Students’ belongings unchallenged.

Some of the affected students said police at Okuta Elerinla station were contacted while the attack was going on but couldn’t do anything. “And the armed robbers had a field day!”

“What we need is police protection, unfortunately, we are left in the cold.” A student said

On Friday morning, the students blocked the Akure-Ilesha express road in protest of the incessant attacks, a situation that led to traffic congestion on the busy highway, leaving motorists to make a detour through Ipinsa, a neighbouring community and other alternative route.

The students cried to federal and state government to put up measure that will secure them from robbery attack.
