Nigeria Is Broken, Fractured, Becoming A Graveyard – Bishop Kukah

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah has disclosed that Nigeria is a severely broken and fractured nation littered with broken dreams, broken hopes and promises made but never fulfilled.

Bishop Kukah made this known on Sunday night when he was featured on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme.

The cleric said that the evidence of Nigeria’s brokenness is obvious before Nigerians, noting that what Nigeria has been doing in the name of politics is merely picking up the pieces.

He said that Nigeria’s brokenness is evident in over half a million abandoned projects that litter the country and the fact that hundreds of Nigerians are still in captivity.

According to him, in the last 10 years or more, Nigeria has become almost a graveyard of sorts as people are buried in their hundreds, meanwhile, the country is not in the war.

Kukah said, ”This is a severely broken nation, fractured nation and the evidence is before all of us and what we have been doing in the name of politics is just picking up the pieces, the entire nation is littered with broken dreams, broken hopes, promises made and never fulfilled.

“Indeed, the over half a million abandoned projects littered in this country is a testament to the brokenness of our country. The very fact that hundreds of Nigerians are still in captivity is evidence of the brokenness of our society.

“The evidence that the country is actually in the last 10 years or more, has become almost a graveyard of sorts and we are burying people in their hundreds and we are not in the war, we don’t need to look any further to explain how broken our country has been.

“We need to return to the scene of the crime to see the range of opportunities that we missed. I don’t beg people to agree with me. Many people will find areas of disagreement with the things that I say but we cannot quarrel with the fact that ours is a nation that is desperately in need of healing, and the prime time is now.”
