UPDATE: Govt. Suspends Commercial Activities In Lagos Market Over Fire Outbreak
The Lagos State Government has directed that commercial activities on Dosunmu Street and its immediate environs in the Lagos Central district be suspended immediately until further notice due to a fire incident that engulfed the area early Tuesday morning.
The Special Adviser (SA) to the Governor on Central Business District (CBD), Hon. (Mrs.) Bola Olumegbon Lawal, who is closely monitoring the incident, issued this directive in a statement provided by the spokesperson of the agency, Mr. Seyi Akitoye, a copy of which was made available to journalists.
Lawal stated that the measure became necessary to prevent loss of life and to maintain peace and order in the area.
She, however, urged market women and men in the area to make way for emergency responders who have timely responded to the incident to effectively perform their duties.
It should be noted that the fire, which started in the early hours of Tuesday, had already brought down two buildings, while efforts were ongoing to stop its spread.
According to the statement, the affected areas include Dosumu, Nnamdi Azikwe, Moshalashi, Woro Pedro, and Obanikoro streets.
Others affected are Ago Tawa, Idumagbo Avenue, Idumagbo, Ido-Oluwo, and Oju Olobun streets.
