Ondo Deputy Gov., Adelami Tasks Youths On Skill Acquisition

The deputy governor of Ondo state, Dr Olayide Adelami, has charged young people in the state to expand their capabilities, so as to position themselves adequately for the 21st century job market. 

Adelami gave the advise in Akure on Tuesday, while receiving the new executive members of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ondo state axis. 

The deputy governor, who interacted with the student leaders on behalf of the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said “earning a degree certificate is not enough but equipping yourselves with in-demand skills, especially in ICT will give you an edge in the job market” 

He assured them of the governor’s unwavering commitment to quality education and promotion of knowledge economy, which he said “it’s the new oil”

Earlier in his opening address, the new chairman of NANS JCC, Ondo axis, Comrade Oluwatobi Joshua, applauded the governor for his strides in education and infrastructure, saying “it shows a leader who is truly committed to human capital development”

He commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for paying the backlog of salaries owed to staff of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, N1.2bn infrastructure grant given to Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology Okitipupa, payment of N550m WAEC fees, recruitment of 2,000 secondary and primary school teachers, among many others.

Remarking, NANS Senate President, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye, drew the attention of the state government to some unresolved issues before the end of the last administration, as he reposed confidence in the present government to address them.
