Obama Praises President Joe Biden’s Decision To Step Down, Warns Of Uncharted Waters Ahead
It is no longer news that President Joe Biden has announced that he will no longer seek re-election.
Mr Biden, announced this via a post on X handle saying “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,”.
Mr Biden also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the November election.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he posted on X on Sunday.
Mr Biden’s support for Ms Harris boosts her chances of becoming the Democratic Party’s candidate to challenge ex-President Donald Trump in November’s election. Mr Trump has been formally declared the candidate of the Republican Party.
Meanwhile, in his reaction to Biden decision, former president Barack Obama praised US President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the White House race on Sunday, saying it was testament to the US leader’s “love of country” but however, warned of “uncharted waters” ahead of the November 5 election.
Biden had “every right” to run for reelection, the former president said in a statement, lauding the 81-year-old’s record and calling him a “patriot of the highest order.”
“We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges,” .
