SGF, NSA, Ministers In Emergency Meeting Over Planned Protest
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, is currently meeting with ministers on the proposed nationwide protest against economic hardship by Nigerian youths.
The meeting was convened behind closed doors on Wednesday 24th july and has all the over 40 ministers in the President’s cabinet in attendance.
Some of the Ministers spotted are Nyesom Wike (FCT), Yusuf Tuggar (Foreign Affairs), Zephaniah Jisalo (Special Duties), Tahir Mamman (Education), and Abubakar Bagudu (Budget and Planning).
Others are Wale Edun (Finance), Mohammed Idris (Information), Bello Matawalle (Defence), David Umahi (Works), and the National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, amongst others.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday appealed to Nigerians to shelve the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest slated for next month.
The protest against economic hardship, which is gaining traction on social media, has been scheduled to hold across all states of the Federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in August.
The organisers of the protest have remained faceless although Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Communication and Strategy has accused Peter Obi, the presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party in the 2023 Elections and the Obedient movement, of masterminding the planned protest.
This allegation did not however go down well with Peter Obi who has asked for a public apology to be published in four major newspapers within 72 hours, failing which he threatened to slam a Five billion Naira (N5bn) suit on Mr. Onanuga.
Peter Obi’s co-accused, Prof Pat Utomi also denied the allegation of any complicity in the planned protest while Mr Onanuga, in his response on his verified X handle, @aonanuga1957 on Tuesday refused to retract his statement and instead, insisted that he is ready to meet Peter Obi or any aggrieved person in Court.
