Nigeria loses another music icon as Onyeka Onwenu passes on at 72

The entertainment industry is once again hit by another shocking demise, this time, of singer Onyeka Onwenu, known more as the Elegant Stallion. She died on Tuesday night at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after she slumped at the birthday party of Mrs Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceuticals where she performed.

The multi talented award winning Nigerian singer, actor, politician, business woman and activist, died at the age of 72.

A career which spanned over 40 years, Onyeka, who has produced many hit songs like Iyogogo, One love, etc, had announced earlier this year that she was producing a movie chronicling her experiences in the music industry.

She expressed her excitement to share her personal story and how the Nigerian music industry has evolved over time.

Onyeka was chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and was appointed Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development.
