House Committee on Federal Character Meets With Agencies On Federal Character Compliance
The Committee on Federal Character, chaired by the 9th Assembly Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Idris Wase, convened today to assess the activities of the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology, Kano, the Agricultural Rural Management Training Institute, Voice of Nigeria, the National Council for Arts and Culture, and the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), focusing on their adherence to federal character principles.
The Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology, Kano, which specializes in agricultural education, and the Agricultural Rural Management Training Institute, responsible for rural agricultural management training, were reviewed for their compliance with federal character requirements. Voice of Nigeria, the nation’s international broadcasting service, and the National Council for Arts and Culture, which promotes Nigeria’s cultural heritage, were similarly scrutinized.
The Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), which oversees public-private partnerships for infrastructure projects, was also assessed. The committee emphasized the importance of these agencies ensuring equitable representation in their employment and operations in line with federal character principles.
The committee reiterated that all agencies must comply with these principles to ensure fairness and inclusivity across the federal system. Recommendations will be issued, and further actions will follow based on the findings from these reviews.
