Obaseki Commissions First Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre In Edo
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has on Tuesday inaugurated the first Vehicle Inspection Centre located at the state capital in Benin City.
The govenror while highlighting his administration’s commitment to road infrastructure development, stressed the crucial roles the transport sector plays in the state economy and the need to harness its potential for growth.
While underscoring the strategic location of the state as a major transit point, the Obaseki reinterated that the role of Edo State in the Nigeria’s transportation sector makes infrastructure development not just a priority but a necessity.
Also speaking at the event, Prince Segun Obayendo, Group Managing Director, Temple Group Limited hailed the vision behind the initiative. According to him, “Governor Obaseki’s foresight not only aims at compliance but at setting new benchmarks in road safety.”
Also touching on the rationale behind the location of the centre, Obayendo said, “We’re not just aiming for local compliance; we’re positioning Nigerian vehicles for global standards, potentially enhancing the state’s economic prospects through vehicle export capabilities to neighbouring African countries.”
The initiative comes in response to rising road accidents often linked to vehicle malfunctions, reflecting a broader strategy that aligned with global safety practices. Governor Obaseki’s commitment extends beyond this project, with plans for similar centers in Auchi and Ekpoma, aiming to not only improve safety but also enhance the state’s economic prospects.
Strategically positioned at KLM 6 opposite the Magistrate Court, this center has the capacity to process up to 150 vehicle inspections daily, addressing long-standing compliance issues with Nigeria’s National Road Traffic Law.
