Ajegunle needs a digital smart thinker, not a dullard – Wahab Oluwa
The name Prince Wahab Oluwa Oyebowale is synonymous with the famous Oluwa hegemony that has carved a niche for itself as a family in all spheres including, the political landscape of Lagos State as a whole. Towing the political trajectory of his father, Wahab has been involved in politics, which has been bolstered by his philanthropic work. He is not one to shy away from challenges as he has thrown his heart in the ring to wrestle with others for the coveted number one seat of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun LGA, as Hon Fatai Ebie Ayoola, the incumbent chairman, will soon be on his way out of office.
Incidentally, Wahab played a significant role in the emergence of Hon Ayoola as the Chairman of Ajeromi/Ifelodun LGA, working as a member of the finance committee during his campaign. He was retained in the same committee during his second term campaign.
“I have been a political participant towards the growth of Ajegunle for so many years and I was instrumental to the victory story of the incumbent chairman Hon Fatai Ayoola. I served in the capacity as a member of the finance committee to achieve the goal of his emergency. He won and he is doing great in Ajeromi /Ifelodun LGA.
For his second term, I was still reappointed in that capacity and in addition as member of the committee for the House of Assembly contestant then Hon Fatai Olatunji Oluwa. I was also in one of the committees in the Sanwo Olu/Hamzat election team”.
“I served as a deputy director, later director of ICT Diaspora Committee of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign team. In addition, I served in the same capacity for Sanwo Olu/ Hamzat election second term. I have impacted great kindness on the people; it maybe in the political, religious or traditional settings, my work speaks for me”.
“Linking it to my father, he was the first member of the Oluwa family when this local government {Ajeromi} to Badagry was just one local government and that was during the time of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the former Governor of Lagos State. His candidacy became a popular one that everybody kept coming for him because they wanted him to be the flag- bearer of their party NCP. If you link it up, you will see my involvement in political activities from a long time. So many people dont know the true story of my political history, they just act based on hear say. They relocated him to Ajegunle without having knowledge of what and how Ajegunle is being run and who is behind it,” Oluwa stated.
On the issue of using his philanthropic gestures to win political patronage, Wahab said the act of giving is a culture that have been imbibed in him right from childhood and this only shows the kind of upbringing he received from his parents. As a focused man, one must have a purpose in life.
His words, “The purpose of life is the life of purpose in itself and if you dont have a definition of purpose in life, you have failed. One of my definitions of purpose is to give back to the society. I have never been a political office holder, neither have I held any political office but I have been doing this from my own sweat. I have been touching lives, giving educational support in the aspect of writing materials and school bags. I have been doing food palliative to support people that cannot afford food”.
“I have been promoting sporting activities, health care for the old and vulnerable, not leaving out the young ones. And I have been doing this without holding any political office, so if I am to occupy any political office, I will still do more because I know the problems of Ajegunle people”.
The politician disagrees with the notion that the Oluwa family wants to monopolize the political landscape of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun even as his brother is also a seating member of the House of Assembly. For him, it’s a matter of ‘who the cap fits, let him wear it. In essence, it’s about the hunger, desire and competence to work for the people that is driving me.
In addition, contesting against the Ojora family, according to him, will never bring any squabble among the two notable families. Politics, he said is not a do or die affair and the two families already have an understanding to be mindful of their comments and actions as far as the aspiration of their children are concerned.
“Looking at this from the point that this is my brother or the other is in politics, PWO as he is fondly called queries, which one will you say is not eligible and what are the criteria for participating in an election. We all merit it. I can tell you that there’s no issue among us and we are all fighting for a common goal through the same course, but I can also tell you that its not a game of do or die, may the best man win.
“Either Oluwa or Ojora, none of the two families will allow their name to be soiled against the progress of Ajegunle,”he said.
Prince Wahab however singled out himself as the best man for the exalted seat of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun chairman. He believes that leadership especially in Ajegunle, is not for the dullard but for the digital smart thinker.
“I know I am better than others because Ajegunle does not need a dullard. Ajegunle needs a digital smart thinker. Leave the work of Ajegunle for the real Ajegunlite, a digital smart thinker”, Prince Oluwa boasted.
As for those who claim it’s Ajegunle’s turn to produce the next chairman of Ajeromi/ Ifelodun, he disagrees with them and described the people championing such course as myopic.
“Its more of myopic comments because looking at it, what is the essence of the agitation. We are talking about Ajegunle which comprises of Olodi Apapa, Araromi, Ajegunle and Amukoko”.
“During the time of our father Baba Rabiu Oluwa, when he was the Chairman of Ajeromi/ifelodun LGA, it started from the Federal Government Press, down to Alaba Suru. Are you telling me now that those places are no longer regarded as Ajegunle? If you are saying just three communities out of many communities in Ajegunle are being tagged as Ajegunle, what happens to the rest?
“We should be talking about good representation which will bring development and progress, not some myopic reasoning bringing them together to sabotage the progress of the community”.
“Thats not what we need now. We need progress; development and we need Ajegunle to be represented positively at the global front. We want a situation where when Ajegunle is mentioned, everybody outside would want to reckon with people from Ajegunle, not some myopic people trying to distract us from being progressive”, he concluded.
