Dream Catchers Academy x Tinsel Combines With African Magic To Horn Young Talents
Every new Africa Magic original series is an avenue to witness a new crop of talent being ushered into Nollywood. With ‘Italo’, we got to see the brilliance of Angela Eguaveon’s acting and her commitment to delivering every emotion needed to nail her role. In 10th Avenue, Caleb Richards’ showstopping performance has continued to earn him a space in the hearts of viewers and lovers of the show. In Omera, Desmond Bryce’s embodiment of his character gave a unique charm to the show.
All these soap operas have introduced us to talent we regularly do not see but have come to love as a result of them featuring on Africa Magic shows. But before the Italos and Omeras, there was Tinsel, Africa’s longest-running and most successful drama series that has given rise to some of Nollywood’s biggest names, including Timini Egbuson and Blossom Chukwujekwu.
Over three thousand episodes later, the show has continued to bring Nollywood talent to the limelight, and this time, its one of the talented young kids of the Dream Catchers Academy. Founded by Seyi Oluyole, Dream Catchers Academy transforms the lives of orphaned and indigent girls, providing them with free education, music, dance, and arts training.
Darasimi Solarin, will feature on Tinsel as Gavou Ishaya from episode 3996 that aired on Friday, November 15, 2024, and like her, there are other young Dream Catcher actors that will be given the opportunity to feature on the drama series while showcasing their love for dance and the arts in general.
Speaking at the Dream Catchers Academy x Tinsel meet up in Lagos, veteran actors like Ireti Doyle, Carol King, and more took the young actors through the creative process behind filmmaking, particularly Tinsel, while answering burning questions about the filmmaking process and broadening their perspective on the endless possibilities and opportunities available to them in the film industry.
“When you watch the show, all you see are the actors, but there’s a whole village behind the scene that plays specific roles. This involves videographers, cameramen, fashion designers, makeup artists, caterers, cleaners, and props. There’s a professional in charge of every single element that you see on TV,” said Ireti Doyle, a Tinsel cast member and veteran actress, during the question-and-answer session.
From writing scripts for Africa Magic shows to mentoring and providing opportunities for thousands of young girls who have gone on to receive recognition on platforms such as France’s Got Talent and The Future Africa Award, Seyi Oluyole, the founder of Dream Catchers Academy’s story, has become a source of inspiration to millions of people across the world.
As part of their contribution to the growth of the film industry, Africa Magic has further given these emerging talent an opportunity to actualise their dreams while giving them a platform that has captured the Nigerian audience for 17 years with an engaging and captivating storyline.
