The Edo State Government has announced a groundbreaking partnership with an aviation company to establish a training center for aircraft assembly and maintenance in Benin City, the state capital. This initiative, championed by Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, aims to provide training for Edo citizens as mechanics, pilots, and other aviation professionals. The Governor, who took a test flight in one of the light aircraft, expressed his excitement about the project, stating that it marks the beginning of a new development era for Edo State.
The partnership will see the aviation company establish an assembly plant at the Benin Airport, where light aircraft will be assembled. The company’s CEO, Ehis Odia, highlighted the significance of this project, noting that Edo State will be the first state in Nigeria to have an aircraft assembly plant.
The project is expected to create jobs, reduce unemployment, and generate wealth in the state. Odia also emphasized the importance of investing in primary schools to promote general aviation awareness.
The training program will cater to secondary and technical school students, providing them with the skills and knowledge required to become aircraft mechanics. The company also plans to encourage the establishment of aero-clubs in schools to promote aviation awareness and education. Pilot Donovan Lombard, who flew the Governor on the test flight, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it will make transportation more effective in Edo State.
