Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board (LSTMB) has taken a significant step in promoting its advocacy and sensitization programme by hosting an event in the Epe Division recently.
Speaking at the event held in Salako Hall, Epe, the Registrar of the Board, Prince Babatunde Adele, said this initiative is part of a quarterly programme aimed at providing a vital platform for practitioners and stakeholders within the Traditional Medicine Community to engage in meaningful dialogue, exchange innovative ideas, and build essential networks in various zones across the state,
The Registrar extended heartfelt congratulations to the practitioners in the division with the establishment of a zonal office by the Board which is set to simplify the registration and renewal processes for practitioners. He said practitioners should embrace synergy between themselves to move the practice forward.
The Director of Research, Training, and Development, Mr. Hakeem Bello addressed the practitioners, emphasising the importance of relevance in the face of the ongoing brain drain in the health sector. He urged practitioners to remain engaged and proactive in their practices to ensure the continued growth and development of traditional medicine.
Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity for Heads of Associations to submit comprehensive lists of their practitioners to the Board. The initiative, according to him, is designed to create a detailed compendium that will facilitate better coordination and support for all practitioners when needed.
The Chief Nursing Officer, Epe General Hospital, Miss. Kafilat Kaffo also spoke at the event, expressing admiration for the support that Community Health Officers (CHOs) have been providing to Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs). She encouraged all stakeholders to continue their efforts in supporting TBAs, recognising their crucial role in the healthcare system.
In addition, the Medical Director of Ibeju Lekki General Hospital, represented by Dr. Akibon John, shared insights on the importance of collaboration among practitioners. He urged attendees to form synergies within their community to advance their practices and improve healthcare delivery.
