Flash Flood in Mokwa LGA, Niger State, Caused by Water Release From Jebba Dam- NEMA
On February 6, 2025, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, conducted an assessment of communities and rice farms affected by a flash flood in Mokwa Local Government Area, Niger State. The flood resulted from the uncontrolled release of water from the Jebba Dam, causing extensive damage.
The flood submerged and washed away irrigated rice farms belonging to communities along the banks of the River Niger. Over 544 farmers across 32 communities were impacted, with 1,097 hectares of farmland damaged, leading to significant crop and land losses.
The assessment was carried out in the presence of NEMA officials, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross (NRC), community leaders, and the Personal Assistant to the Honorable Member of the House of Representatives.
