Christian Chukwu Dies At 74

Former Green Eagles Captain Christian Chukwu, is dead. The former Super Eagles coach passed away on Saturday at the age of 74.

Popular known as Chairman Christian Chukwu, he became the first Nigerian Captain to lift the converted Nations Cup in 1980, that had other teammates like ‘Mathematical’ Segun Odegbami, Muda Lawal and Emmanuel Okala among others.

Christian Chukwu also captained Enugu Rangers also known as the ‘flying antelope’ for many seasons, where he played greater part of his club football. He later coached Enugu Rangers at some point in his coaching career

His former teammate Segun Odegbami expressed shock at the death of the former Super Eagles defender.

“I received the news that between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, my bosom friend and teammate, one of the greatest football players in Nigeria’s history, has passed on.

“Babuje, Emmanuel Okala, MON, gave me the sad news a few minutes ago. May ‘Onyim’ find peace with Our Creator in Heaven and console his family,” Odegbami said.
