Insecurity: Obasanjo tells Buhari to use the carrot and stick approach

Former President of Nigeria Olusegun Obasanjo has said President Muhammadu Buhari should use the Carrots and Stick approaches to tackle insecurity, that the stick approach alone won’t tackle the insecurity in the country.

“People talk of political will, but I talk of political action. Political will is not enough. It must be matched by political action.

“The problem of insurgency will not go away if all we are using is the ‘stick’ (military action). We may suppress it, and keep it down a bit, but we have to use ‘carrot and stick’ together to effectively tackle the problems,” Obasanjo said.

He also added that since the Insecurity in Nigeria is local, it should also be tackled locally and this should be done before the 2023 general election.
