It Is Unfair To Ban Okada Where There Is No Banditry- Shehu Sani Reacts To Proposed Ban On Okada
The planned ban on commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada as been generating heated criticism and whirlwind of reactions on social media since the idea was made public on Thursday.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Mallami while addressing the press at the state House after the National Security Council on Thursday disclosed that the Federal government may place an outright ban on Okada across the country.
According to him, the move will reduce the rate of baditry, killing and kidnapping in the society. It will also prevent the funding of terrorists in the country. This was said to be the outcome of the meeting held at the presidential villa which was presided over by president Muhammadu Buhari.
This proposed decision however does not seem to go down well with the former Senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District between 2015 and 2019, Shehu Sani.
Responding to the argument on his verified twitter handle, Shehu Sani asked what will be the fate of people in those places where there are no bandits?
He noted that it is a way of cutting off some people’s livelihood in a country where there is no unemployment allowance, job security and ease of doing business.
Shehu Sani explained that the action will be counter-productive if eventually taken by the federal government. He described it as unfair to the people of Nigeria.
