INEC Gives Clarification On Alleged Manual Transmission Of 2023 Election Results
The controversy surrounding the possible transmission of the results of the 2023 General Elections has thrown the entire political space into intense argument and debate since the news went viral.
An online report had published the news that the Independent National Electoral Commission had, in a press Interview with some selected journalists, resolved to transmit election results manually contrary to what was experienced in Ekiti and Osun Governorship Elections.
The development triggered an unhealthy speculations in the public as many believed it was a ploy by the ruling party to use INEC to rig the election in its favour.
Reacting to the information, the commison outrightly dismissed the report saying it is not true.
The reaction was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the INEC National Commissioner for Information and Voters Education, Festus Okoye.
According to the statement, INEC acknowledged the fact that its granted an interview with the press on the management of 2023 Election results but stating that results will be transmitted manually is false and such report should be disregarded by Nigerians.
Some have interpreted the explanation on result management procedure to mean that the Commission has jettisoned the electronic transmission of results and reverted to the manual process. This is not correct.
“For clarity, the process for result transmission remains the same as in recent Governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.
“There will be no change in all future elections, including the 2023 general elections.” The statement clarified.
