I Will Get The Farmers Back To Farm Immediately- Peter Obi Speaks To CNN On Economic Revitalization
Peter Obi’s interview on CNN has become a trending topic of discussion on social media since Friday after he granted audience to the presenter.
The interview which was earlier postponed before it was held on Friday practically put the former governor of Anambra state on the spotlight and also afforded him the opportunity to give Nigerians in Diaspora the privilege to have an idea of what he will do if elected in 2023.
While being asked by the presenter on how he will turn around the country’s economy that is currently in comatose, Peter Obi revealed to his host that the first thing he will do is to get the farmers back to farm for food sufficiency.
But the only way to achieve that is to make sure the problem of insecurity is solved. According to him, Nigerian farmers have been forced to abandoned their farms through the activities of Bandits, Boko Haram, herdsmen and other criminal elements who rape, kill and kidnap people for ransom.
He said once he deals decisively with insecurity, and farmers are able to go to their farms, there will be food sufficiency in the country and Nigeria will also be able to export food and other farm produce to other part of the country.
Peter Obi also revealed that he will repair the refineries that are abandoned for many years. He said Nigeria cannot sustain the current fuel subsidy and the only way to handle the fuel crisis is to remove the subsidy.
He said the money paid on subsidy monthly will be diverted to something that will be more productive and beneficial to the people.
The former governor promised to cut down the cost of governance in Nigeria.
He said this will help raise enough money to secure and rebuild the economy.
