Exclusive: WSC announces fight fixtures, prize monies for first international MMA open in Nigeria

The management of Warrior Sports Championship (WSC), a mixed-martial art (MMA) Promotions Company in Africa has announced the features and prize money for the first international mixed-martial-arts competition in Nigeria.

The International Open competition is set to feature two categories of fights: A title fight including undercard draws and the international open which is to feature 16 fighters in a knock-out series. The winner of the knock out series is to win a cash prize of $4,000 while the runner up (losing finalist) takes home $1,500 (One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars).

The announcement was made Monday by the representative of WSC in Nigeria, Mr Iyke Nwobodo.

Scheduled to hold on 26-28 April at the Indoor Sports hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, the three day competition is to showcase fighters from within and outside the country who will square up for prize monies before a large audience of martial arts enthusiasts and fans.

The highlight of the competition is the main WSC light heavyweight title fight between Emmanuel Onoja of the Nigerian Army and Amar Abdul Nabi of Lebanon. Both fighters will be paid according to international standards, the organisers revealed.

The title fight is to feature three undercard fights  of select international and local fighters.

Also, as part of the event, 16 fighters in the 77kg weight category will feature in the international open knock-out series where the winner takes home $4,000 (Four thousand dollars) while the runner up takes home a consolatory cash prize of $1,500 (One thousand five hundred dollars).

According to the fixtures, eight out of sixteen fighters in the international open contest will be eliminated in the first round while the successful 8 will move to the quarter finals. At the quarter finals, four winners will emerge and move into the semi-finals stage where two fighters will qualify for the grand finale.

Some of the confirmed fighters for the international open include Obinka Chigozie (Nigeria), Isaac De Legend (international), Edson Fonsece (International) and Matthew Obinna (Nigeria).  

Others are Baba Bounjou Nadjonbe (Togo), Albert Isaiah (Nigeria), Emmanuel Osuji (Nigeria), Eboe Franklin John (International), Daniel Emeka Eze (Nigeria) and Shido Boris Sato Esperance (International).

Completing the list are: Menia Nimi Jack (Nigeria), Amiche Francais  (International), Chateau Christophe (International) and A. Faruk (International)
