Youths call on IGP to stop Police brutality, ban SARS

A youth awareness organisation, United Patriots of Nigeria, UPN, has charged the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Mohammed Adamu, to take a firm stand against the widespread cases of Police brutality of innocent citizens and other anti-people activities of officers and men of the Force.

The group also descended on the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, which it accused of deliberate acts of intimidation, oppression and suppression of Nigerian youths, students and the general populace.

At the protest held on Friday morning at the entrance to the moribund National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos the aggrieved youths displayed placards with inscriptions such as: “Being a youth is not a crime”, “End SARS Now” and “Stop Police Brutality”, to express their grievances.

In a chat with RovingNaija, the group’s spokesperson, Israel Oladipupo Ogunseye, said the group stands in solidarity with the campaign to end SARS.

Ogunseye says his group has always condemned in strong terms the activities of the Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, promising that they will continue with their protests until the IG accedes to their demands

He called on all well-meaning Nigerians to remain steadfast and support their campaign to rid the Nigeria Police and by extension the country of illegalities and anti-people policies.

The peaceful protest was staged just a few paces away from a team of Police men stationed at the entrance to the Stadium
