Airport Staff Explain Why They Switched Off Light That Left PDP Campaign Team Stranded In Jos

The campaign rally held in Jos, Plateau state by the People’s Democratic Party on Tuesday was one rally that will not be forgotten in a hurry as the party inches closer to the 2023 presidential election.

In the usual way they have been campaigning in other states since the commencement of the electioneering activities ahead of 2023, the party was treated to a big shock after their campaign in the state capital and headed for the Airport to board a flight back to Abuja.

According to the report on Vanguard, the party’s campaign team and journalists were stranded at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Jos moments after concluding the presidential campaign rally in the state.

The National Organising Secretary of the PDP, Umar Bature, security personnel working directly with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as well as journalists were part of those who were stranded.

Atiku and the PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) were said to have been transported to the airport shortly after the rally.

But, about 30 minutes later, the PDP candidate and some top members of the party reportedly boarded and departed from the state.

However, the airport tower signal went off immediately after the former vice president departed. It was gathered that an aircraft which was about to land could not land and was forced to turn back.

Explaining to Vanguard News why the Airport light was switched off, the staff revealed that they received instructions  to shut down the facility at exactly 5:30pm, claiming that there was no request for an extension of time by the PDP.

Some PDP members alleged that this could have been politically motivated with a member of the PDP. They however accused the All Progressives Congress, of foul play.
