When We Get Political Power, We Get So Blinded- Ex-President Jonathan

Former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan has cautioned members of the ruling class and politicians in Nigeria to thread with caution in their relationship with the other arms of government and the electorate.

Jonathan revealed how politicians get blinded to what should be the right thing to do while in office but only remember to do it after leaving the office.

The Ex-President made the statement while speaking during the book presentation and reception of the weeklong activities marking the retirement of Bayelsa State Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri in Yenagoa.

While acknowledging the critical roles played by the retired judge in the swearing-in of Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike which consequently averted constitutional crisis in the state, Jonathan revealed how politicians get blinded when they get political power.

He said: “When We Get Political Power, We Get So Blinded, Politicians Should Know Society Is Changing.”

Speaking further, the former president sent words of advice to the Nigerian politicians with regards to the way they treat the judiciary: “I advise politicians that while in office, let us not try to blackmail the judiciary because it is conservative. When we get political power, we get so blinded. Politicians should know that society is changing.

“Today, we are celebrating our retiring Chief Judge because she has served meritoriously. In 2015, she left Bayelsa for Rivers to perform the swearing-in of the governor thereby averting anarchy. It appears that the judicial arm is more functional than the executive.”.
