Even If The G-5 Had Backed Atiku, It Would Not Have Made Any Difference- Shehu Sani
The loss of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party at the just concluded presidential election has remained on the lips of political observers one week after the poll.
The former vice president of Nigeria lost to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress, making him one of the few Nigerians with a long history of consistent loses in presidential elections.
Many Nigerians have however attributed his recent defeat to the internal crisis rocking the opposition party since the conclusion of presidential primary.
The internal wrangling, which is predicated on the principle of rotational presidency, resulted in the emergence of G-5 Governors led by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.
The governors, who include Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Ikezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Samuel Ortom of Benue and Wike of Rivers state promised to work against Atiku if their demand for the removal of the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu is not met.
And true to their threat, Atiku lost in all the states presided over by the aggrieved governors. This appears to have formed the general opinion that the G-5 Governors were responsible for PDP loss at the presidential poll.
Reacting to the argument, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani said Atiku would have lost the election nonetheless even if the governors had worked for him.
He made this known on his Twitter official handle.
He said: “Even if the G-5 Governors backed Atiku, it would not have made any difference.”
Writing further, Shehu Sani revealed that the govenernors couldn’t help themselves talkless of helping their presidential candidate.
“Even if the G5 backed HE Atiku,it wouldn’t have made any difference.They couldn’t even help themselves talk less of helping their Presidential candidate.They failed to realise that the masses have gone beyond taking commanding instruction from Governors;Governors now beg.” He wrote on twitter.
