Don’t Set Lagos On Fire- LP Gov’ship Candidate Tells INEC, Police Over Voter Suppression, Threat
The governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has called on the Nigerian Police and Independent National Electoral Commission not to set the state on fire.
His warning is coming on the heels of massive voters suppression that has been recorded across the state in the ongoing governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
Since the election commenced in Lagos, there has been various reports of intimidation of voters, snatching of ballot boxes and disenfranchisement of many eligible voters.
In some areas, it was revealed that voters who are not Yoruba were told not bother to vote and if they dare vote for another candidate aside the incumbent governor, they will be severely dealt with.
While addressing the situation from the Labour party situation room in Lagos, Rhodes-Vivour revealed that a polling unit agent of the party has been shot dead.
He said all of that happened in the presence of INEC officials and security agents who could not do anything about it.
In the reaction which was contained in a viral video, Rhodes-Vivour said to INEC and Police: “Don’t set Lagos on fire.”
Speaking further, he disclosed: ”If tonight Lagos catches fire, it will not be because it’s our fault; they did not do the right thing. INEC still has hours to make things right.
“A peaceful democratic process has been turned into war by the ruling party because people want to express their choice.
“The point of governance is to preserve and protect lives, not take them.
“Don’t despair, we are stronger than them,” he said.
