Mixed Reactions Trail UK Court’s Ruling On Ekweremadu’s Organ Trafficking
The bad news from the United Kingdom over the case of the former Nigerian Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice has elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians.
The couple, after months of arraignment in the UK, have been found guilty of the offence levelled against them.
In a judgement passed by the UK court on Thursday morning, they were found guilty of organ trafficking in the United Kingdom.
Also guilty of the offence was their “Black Market” medical doctor, Dr. Obinna Obeta.
According to the court, the accused persons were tried and found guilty of facilitating the travel of a young man to Britain with a view to harvesting his kidney. The move was adjudged to be exploitation after a six-week trial at the Old Bailey.
They criminally conspired to bring the 21-year-old Lagos street trader to London to exploit him for his kidney, the jury found on Thursday.
The judge, Justice Jeremy Johnson, will pass a sentence at a later date, The Guardian UK reports.
