Herdsmen attack: Gov Ortom confirms 4 people dead in Benue

The governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom has confirmed four people dead in a fresh attack by some suspected Herdsmen in the state. 


The attack on residents of Tse-Angbande community in Makurdi local government area saw four people dead with seven badly injured. Governor Ortom confirmed the incident when he visited the village on Saturday.

In a statement issued by the Benue state government, the attack took place on Friday night, December 11, with four people dead and seven others badly injured.

While at the scene of the attack on Saturday, governor Ortom said the herdsmen struck around 11 pm while people were asleep.

He assured the people that security has been beefed up to ensure 24 hours vigilance in the affected area, the governor urged residents of the affected communities to cooperate with security operatives.

Governor Ortom however condemned the “barbaric” act when he visited victims of the attack who are receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi.


In a statement issued by his chief press secretary, Terver Akase, he stressed that his administration would not relent until the attacks on his people end, adding that the Benue state government would take over the treatment of those injured.


The statement read, “No amount of threat, intimidation, or arm twisting will make me reverse the anti-open grazing law.The governor had on Monday, August 17, raised alarm that Miyeitti Allah groups were planning to unleash violence on Benue state.


He called on security agencies to check the activities of the group and bring their members to book.
