Rivers DPO killing: Court Grants Bail To Traditional Ruler, Former Chairman Of Ahoada East
The Rivers State High court sitting in Port Harcourt on Tuesday granted bail to former Chairman of Ahoada -East local government CASSIDY IKEGBIDI, First class traditional ruler, CHIEF NGOZI ANUGWOR and Five others out of over 50 defendants in the murder case of Late DPO of Ahoada East local Government area SP BAKO ANGBASHIM
RovingNaija reports that the trial judge, Justice Sika Henry Apirioku granted bail to the 37th defendant CHIEF NGOZI ANUGWO with two count charges and 1st defendant CASSIDY IKEGBIDI with four count charges both on health grounds with 10 million Naira in like sum and a suretee to be permanent secretary or Director level and a recognized traditional ruler.
They are also to deposit their international passport to the registrar of the court and signed a bond on allegiance to always be present in court
While the other five defendants who are 41st to 45th defendants, MARTINS CASSIDY, STANLEY AMOS, ARIMUDO IKEGIDI, PHILIP ORLU-GOODNESS AND JOY EKENE were granted bail with 5million naira each in like sum, one surtee who is a civil servant on grade level 16.
Earlier, the defendants all pleaded not guilty to the various count charges, ranging from conspiracy, Murder, conspiracy to commit Armed robbery and Cultism.
Meanwhile, the trial Judge said the court is bound to grant bail to the defendants, as the prosecution is handicapped because the DPP is unable to receive all documentation from the O C legal and for the health condition of the defendants.
The trial Judge later adjourned to the 8th and 13th of December for consideration of bail.
