CAF CC: Rivers United Beat Celtics Again
Rivers United thrashed Bloemfontein Celtics 3-0 on Saturday to progress to the final playoff round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Rivers United had to settle to play their home match at the Charles De Gaulles Stadium in Port Novo, Benin Republic instead of their traditional Port Harcourt home ground.
However, Stanley Eguma’s men were ruthless nonetheless; progressing on 5-0 aggregate scoreline.
The Pride of Rivers had secured a 2-0 win when they played the first leg in South Africa before sealing their passage with another flawless performance.
Fortune Omoniwari and Godwin Aguda who were the goal scorers for Rivers United in SouthAfrica got the goals in Saturday’s second leg tie with the latter scoring twice this time.
Rivers United now have a tough hurdle ahead of them as they would be slugging it out against bitter rivals, Enyimba for a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
The first leg of the play-off round between the two Nigerian clubs will be held at the Enyimba Stadium, Aba on February 14, 2021, with the return leg taking place seven days later.
