AFCON: Angry Ghanian Supporters Destroy Black Stars Bus After Draw With Mozambique

Some angry Ghanaian fans on Monday went on rampage, vandalizing the bus conveying the Black Stars and attempting to attack the team in the bus.

This followed the disappointing 2-2 draw against Mozambique in the final group stage match of the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars had high stakes in the game, as they targeted a win to secure a spot in the round of 16.

Ghana went into the break with a 1-0 lead through a Jordan Ayew penalty.

In the second half, the four-time AFCON winners got another penalty which was also converted by Ayew.

This put Chris Hughton’s side in a good position to secure all three points that should have secured qualification into the next round.

However, the Mozambicans ventured forward and pulled a goal in the 91st minute and in the 94th minute got the equalizer from a corner kick, hence shattering Ghana’s aspirations.

In a viral video, the fans vented their anger on the team by smashing windows of the bus which was conveying the players out of the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.

Angry Ghanaian journalists had barricaded the bus in a show of displeasure in the aftermath of the encounter.

In their 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, a fan was arrested for assaulting head coach Chris Hughton.

With this outcome, Ghana’s chances hinge on other results to determine if they can qualify among the best third-placed teams, having amassed only two points.

Surprise team Cape Verde clinched the top spot in Group B, with Egypt securing the second position with three points.
